Walking Bass Line Etudes

Angular Walking Bass Line Etudes

I created my angular walking bass line etudes to help students break out of predictable patterns and explore fresh, melodic approaches to walking bass. These studies use disjunct motion, Baroque-inspired voice leading, and implied counterpoint to build harmonic awareness, phrasing, and technique.

Each etude is written over jazz standards and includes tablature to support navigating hand stretches and sustained notes that create a sense of polyphony. They’re great for private practice, lessons, or creative warm-ups—and many of my students use them as a springboard to develop their own ideas.
